The Guards Collection

The Foot Guards are the Regular Infantry regiments of the Household Division of the British Army.  There are 5 active regiments:
  • Grenadier Guards - formed 1636 - single buttons - White plume on left of Bearskin
  • Coldstream Guards - formed 1650 - buttons in pairs - Red plume on right of Bearskin
  • Scots Guards - formed 1643 - buttons in threes - no plumes on Bearskin
  • Irish Guards - formed 1900 - buttons in fours - Blue plume on right of Bearskin
  • Welsh Guards - formed 1915 - buttons in fives - White and Green plume on left of Bearskin
A simple method of distinguishing members of the different Guards units by their appearance is by the spacing of buttons on the tunic. They are also distinguished by the plumes on their bearskins.

These are illustrated on these 2 x striking cushions.
