This doorstop features one of the thirteen Emperor’s Heads outside the entrance to the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford.

They were originally known as ‘termini’. In Classical architecture, the term is used to describe a bust that continues as a square pillar-like form.

The present heads are the third set carved between 1970 and 1972 by Michael Black. The first set lasted 200 years, but by 1868 they were crumbling and new ones were erected.

This is a monster of a doorstop cast in heavy gypsum plaster and a good representation of one of the famous emperor heads that guard the entrance to the iconic Sheldonian Theatre. As a former student of the University of Oxford this is a great memento of my time in Oxford. It actually sits on my bookcase where I can appreciate it more fully. The cost through Distinctly British is very competitive compared with other retailers and shipping is both swift and secure; highly recommended!
