Pope’s Crown - Triple Tiara (1804) - VAC1
Created in 1804 for Pope Pius IV who had agreed to attend the Coronation of the Emperor Napoleon in Paris in 1805, and wore it for this occasion. Richly jewelled and enamelled with 3 inscriptions glorifying the Emperor it was a gift from Napoleon to the Pope ... who had previously emptied the Vatican treasury!
