British Red Telephone Box (single bookend)

The red telephone box has become a British icon. It was designed by Gilbert Scott for a competition in 1924 to find a suitable standard pattern of kiosk that might be introduced throughout Britain. Suffice to say the woinner was this pattern of telephone box, the K2 design.
The most common design of telephone box introduced was the K6 or Jubilee kiosk introduced in 1936 and became Britain's standard kiosk for over 30 years. Over that time over 60,00 were erected.
