About Carriage Clocks

A Brief History of Carriage Clocks

The Carriage Clock evolved from early traveling clocks. Abraham Louis Breguet is said to have been the inventor of the carriage clock in the late 18th century. Typically, these clocks usually took the form of a metal framed case, glazed on all four sides, and with a carrying handle at the top.

Carriage clocks are typified by large, easily read dials set in ornate brass  bodies with a carrying handle and often with glazed panels.

The modern carriage clocks come with either traditional 8 day movements or with the highly accurate solid state Quartz movement. This site offers a wide variety of classical designs and sizes of carriage clock interpreted by two UK Designers.
